Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Finance Minister, Peter Fox MS said:
“Councils are sitting on well over £2 billion in reserves and while some of this will be for good reason, it cannot be right that council tax may be rising by up to 12.5% for people in Wales.
“Welsh Conservatives want to see a proportion of reserves, above a threshold, mobilised to freeze council tax for already hard-pressed bill payers.”
Welsh Conservative Shadow Local Government Minister, Sam Rowlands MS added:
“While the Labour Government need to step in to ensure that taxpayers aren’t having to foot larger bills as reserves swell, they also need to stop hampering councils with endless diktats.
“I sympathise with councils that have had to deal with an endless stream of underfunded programmes from Labour, forcing them to make difficult financial decisions in order to meet their obligations.”
