Labour Ministers in Cardiff Bay have implemented the lowest funding increase on Monmouthshire County Council, having only increased its budget by a mere 2.8%.
This is on the back of a council tax rise of 7.8% last year, with the typical bill passing £2000.
Commenting, Peter Fox MS said:
“As an ex-leader of the council, I know how important funding from the local government settlement is and it is incredibly frustrating to see the council being slapped with the news that they are, once again, the lowest funded council in Wales.
“I want to be clear; this tiny increase will come at the cost of massive council tax hikes on hardworking families across Monmouthshire.
“If we want our local authorities to succeed in providing the public services that the people of Wales deserve, then Labour Ministers must ensure that they are adequately funded through a better funding formula, and not just relying on Monmouthshire residents having to put their hands in their pockets.”
