Local MS, Peter Fox, has been in regular contact with the Ministry of Defence over the past few weeks, raising the case of the closed Inglis Bridge in Monmouth.
In the latest reply from the Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry, Peter’s strength of feeling on the issue has been appreciated, but the Minister is currently unable to provide a timescale on the works beginning.
The Minister has reiterated that funding for the bridge will be considered alongside their other priorities, and works will be instructed once funding has been allocated, and will proceed as soon as is practically possible.
Whilst this is not the update Monmouth residents will have been hoping for, Peter has confirmed that he will remain on the case, and will continue to monitor the situation and will press the Ministry of Defence for progress.
Peter Fox, Member of the Senedd for Monmouth, has said:
“This is an important piece of infrastructure for my residents, and I have been contacted by several constituents about this, so I am pleased, first and foremost, that the Minister has appreciated the strength of feeling that I have on this issue.”
“Whilst the latest update does not provide a timescale, I remain reassured that the MoD will proceed as soon as is practicable.”
“I am aware that residents are very keen for the bridge to be opened as soon as possible, and I will do my best to ensure this happens.”
“I will continue to monitor this situation very closely, and I will follow this up with the Minister again next year to see what progress has been made.”
