The Member of the Senedd for Monmouth, Peter Fox, has raised his concerns following an alarming message from the Grange Hospital.
Because of an extremely busy day, the Grange Hospital issued an urgent message on social media, urging people to only attend its emergency department if they have a life threatening or serious injury.
Commenting, Mr Fox said:
“This is a very alarming situation and I cannot help but wonder how my constituents, as well as those in neighbouring ones, will interpret it.
“This announcement will undoubtedly compound already-existing anxieties, especially around long waiting lists.
“Granted, I’m grateful for the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board issuing an online link people can use to check their symptoms; but what about those, especially many of the elderly, who do not access the internet? Will they be turned away from the door, should they turn up?
“This deeply concerning situation is unsustainable and we need to know when things will return to normal as quickly as possible.”
