Peter Fox MS paid a visit to Goytre Wharf, a great historical site in Monmouthshire run by the Canal And River Trust in Wales.
While it was once a busy site where limekilns processed limestone brought down from the mountains and where boats transported the finished product, it is now a fantastic place to discover local history and explore nature.
The area plays host to a great deal of wildlife including buzzards, red kites, herons and dragonflies.
There is also a great deal of places to grab a bite to eat, from grabbing a coffee at the café at the wharf or at Pontymoile to visiting one of the numerous pubs and cafes alongside the canal.
The Trust has recently completed its winter works programme, investing £250,000 in the 36- mile navigable section which has a history dating back over 220 years.
Commenting, Peter Fox MS said:
“This place of history and natural beauty really is a gem in the beautiful county of Monmouthshire.
“Goytre Warf has plenty to see and do for all ages, including canoeing, cycling, or just immersing yourself in nature with a great woodland walk.
“I would recommend a visit to anyone and look forward to coming again and exploring more of its beautiful walks.”
