The Labour Government Finance Minister Rebecca Evans has today (May 25th) admitted that 9 of Wales’ 22 local authorities have not yet started making rebate payments, according to the most recent figures.
The revelation came during Finance Minister Questions where Welsh Conservatives questioned the Minister about the slow pace of the £150 rebate rollout.
The rebate is possible thanks to funding from the UK Government, but Peter Fox MS, Shadow Minister for Finance, has asked why money isn’t being put back into people’s pockets as quickly as it should be by the Labour Government.
Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance Peter Fox MS said:
“This important tax rebate is happening because of funding from the Conservative UK Government.
“I am delighted that we are putting money in people’s pockets at a difficult time, but it is completely unacceptable that 40% of councils haven’t even started these payments.
“Distributing this money needs to be an absolute priority for Labour Ministers, and they should be doing everything they can to assist local councils and get money to people who really need it.
“Labour bang on about the cost of living and yet when it comes to actually helping people they once again fail to deliver.”
